Epson has just pulled the curtain back on its latest home-cinema projector, the Lifestudio Grand EH-LS670, and it’s aiming straight at people who want a massive screen without turning their living room into a construction site. This ultra-short-throw projector sits just inches from a wall yet beams a crisp 4K image up to 120 inches wide. Add in sound engineered by Bose, and you’re looking at a serious attempt to replace the TV altogether.

The idea is simple but powerful. Most of us don’t have the space or patience for ceiling mounts, blackout curtains, and a jungle of wires. The Lifestudio Grand changes the rules. Park it 15 inches from the wall, hit the remote, and you’ve got a wall-sized picture bright enough to watch even in daylight. Its 3LCD laser light source pumps out 3,600 lumens, so you’re not forced into a dark cave every time you want to stream a show. Support for HDR10 and HLG means colors pop, highlights shine, and shadows actually look like shadows instead of smudges.

Epson’s 4K Pro-UHD technology does the heavy lifting here. It uses pixel-shifting to hit 3,840 by 2,160 resolution — technically not the full eight million pixels of some rivals, but the end result is sharp, detailed, and more than convincing for the human eye. Add 10-bit processing for over a billion colors and a 5-million-to-1 contrast ratio, and you’re squarely in “cinema at home” territory.

Sound is where most projectors stumble, but Epson dodged that by calling in Bose. The Grand comes with dual full-range drivers and a bass-tuned woofer that can easily fill a room, with four EQ presets depending on what you’re watching. It’s one of the few projectors you can actually use without rushing out for a soundbar — though you still have the option of sending audio to an external system if you want to go full surround. And for anyone who takes movie night a little less seriously, there’s even support for a wireless karaoke mic.

This isn’t just a projector, either. With Google TV built in, the Grand is a streaming hub on its own. Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Disney+ — it’s all here, along with voice search and Wi-Fi 6E for smooth playback. Gamers aren’t left behind either, with refresh rates up to 240 Hz and low-latency performance that keeps fast-paced action responsive.

Setup is where you’ll feel some of the trade-offs. There are no built-in alignment sensors, so Epson hands you a mobile app that uses your phone’s camera to square up the image. It works, but it’s not as slick as automatic systems. Focus is manual, not auto, and zoom is limited to a digital 2.5x. These aren’t dealbreakers, but they remind you this isn’t the top tier of luxury projectors — it’s a smart middle ground.

The Lifestudio Grand is available now in black or white, priced at US$2,699.99. It’s big enough to make a statement on your furniture but still sleek and modern enough not to look out of place. For the money, it offers a compelling alternative to buying a giant television that will dominate your wall forever.
What Epson is really selling here is freedom: the freedom to enjoy cinema-sized entertainment without rearranging your home or surrendering your living room to a screen the size of a billboard. It’s about making technology serve your lifestyle, not the other way around.
